Snowflake App Question
-
Hi everyone,
I had a question about the snowflake app "spot" size. Does anyone know what causes some snowflake spots to be bigger than others? I'd like to breed the larger size, if possible.
I've attempted adjusting the white factor and that didn't seem to effect anything. I also tried to avoid the LPP2 gene since I believe that usually causes appy spots to be smaller in other app patterns. My stud is hom for LPP1, does that come into play, or is something else at work here?
I've posted two examples of the larger spot size and the last horse is a stud I was attempting to achieve this look with. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Believe it or not Sooty and Dp can have an impact on spot size.. Am pretty sure CheshireFarms gets into spot size on her AppieWiki in the Player Wiki Faqs blog thingy.

Actually, snowflake spot size is just based on age. annismyrph is confusing snowflake size with leopard spot size. Those are impacted by the base color. snowflake is not.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Amazing! Thank you so much!

Ahh thanks Ammit! You are correct.. I took it to mean "spot" size of the color not the white.

I did a in-game study on Snowflake and Varnish over a year ago, but it was on a horse the same age. Age makes the spots larger, but Varnish made them more concentrated. I don't think I did a study yet on base color and Snowflake.
snow/snow, -/- : base color is clear, snowflake spotting is spread out
snow/snow, Vrn/- : base color is varnished, snowflake spotting is more concentrated
snow/snow, Vrn/Vrn : base color is extremely varnished, snowflake spotting is densely concentratedPost edited by CheshireFarms at 2025-03-12 18:22:38Thanked by 1annismyrph -
