Missing foals?

The "foals this year" on my stallion says he was bred 15 times this year but I only have 13 foals from him. And when looking at his family tab only 20 offspring are shown; 7 from last season that are now 2yos, and 13 foals. He is not up for public breeding yet his info page still says 15 not 13 foals this year. I am confused? Are there two missing foals or is the counter just off somehow?

If any of his foals were sold back to the game, that would retain his bred count but reduce his number of living foals.
