Breeding Problem
  • My SP Stallion keeps pronouncing cob and draft young, he has no heavy horses in his bloodline so what is going on? image
    Cosmic Flight
  • It’s not a problem. Horses have a range of traits they can pass down which includes height and bone weight.

Your horse is a pony but just barely so at the top end of what he can pass down the foals could also be just tall enough to be horse size.

His bone weight is also just barely on this side of being a draft so again the range he can throw will include drafts.

It is possible with selective breeding to start with the tiniest ponies and breed up to the largest tallest drafts. By continuing to breed the biggest foals of each generation together (or go the opposite way breeding the smallest)
Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
  • If you don’t want drafts then check your mares bone weight and make sure it’s smaller than the studs so that the foals possible final bone weight is under 2.5 (I think the switch between light, medium and heavy is 1.5 and 2.5 bone weight)
