Struggling
-
I hope I'm not the only one struggling with the breeding season being shortened to 1 month.
I loved the more relaxed pace when it was 2 months. It gave me time to breed my horses and still have time for my other hobbies and real life stuff. It also gave me time to save money up for GMTs and stuff.
Now I am having to take a hard look at stud colts and keep the GMTs to a minimum, or geld them altogether.
And I'm having a hard time keeping up with my barn and still have time for everything else that I need or want to do.
I've recently gone on a mare culling spree to reduce the number of foals I'll have to go through, since I no longer have the time to save up money for pastures and whatnot.
I do have to agree that the upside to this is that it will be easier to improve generation by generation since the breeding will be going quicker, therefore we get a better idea on what breeding stock is worth keeping and what isn't.
But the time. Ugh. -
Pastures will really help you here.
I took advantage of Ammit's very generous pastures for ivs when the change was first implemented. It has allowed me to keep all my mares in pastures and my barns for show horses. I have a large stable and I was able to breed all the last two months.Post edited by Visions at 2018-08-03 15:22:08 -
I don't have the money to buy a bunch of pastures. For me the issue is the time.
I miss the relaxed pace.
2 months gave me time to breed my horses and have plenty of time for my other hobbies. Like writing.
I can't write if I have to take care of my barn.
So I am culling my breeding stock to make my barn easier to manage. Less mares to breed, the less time I have to spend going through the foals.
I am also gelding colts that passed SBA, stayed intact, but only tested AGA their sires but had the genes I wanted, or tested superior to sire but had missed one or two genes.
2 months used to give me the time to budget money for stallion projects.
1 month I would buy a pasture. 2nd month I would buy 10 GMT tokens and maybe 1 or 2 boosts.
I can't afford to do all that in 1 month now.
I'm seriously considering scrapping all my breeding stock that don't fit what I want now.

I totally know what you mean about the time. But, it has always been a balancing act. Between the kids, the job, and the normal day to day needs it is hard to fit the want-tos in with the have-tos. I love to paint, and lately is has been hard to get to that. I value the time I can play and am lucky that I can check my phone in between meetings or at lunch to try to stay up with the forum or check the sales board. I definitely have started to use this game as my 'decompression' time when I get home from work, even if it is after dinner (and the kid's homework...eek)
I would consider myself having a medium size barn,(about 1200 breedable mares this season) but I was able to get everyone breed that I wanted to the last two months. I do have a few pastures and I run them through in batches. 2nd Generation, 3rd Generation etc. And I try to look at one generation's group that stay intact after SBA at a time. I also geld/spay anything that that isn't superior or that papers lower than their parents.
I have never really been able to afford GMT's, or boosting so I don't tend to think about what something could be. I think that may make gelding easier.
I was worried I wouldn't like the 1 month breeding span, but I think I like it better. Right now it keeps me more engaged and happy to see my horses aging a little quicker, so I can use them sooner. If I am really dedicated and don't get distracted on the sales board I could probably get everything bred and sorted in a week and a half. If at the end of the month I have a few stragglers that didn't get breed I don't worry about it, I tend to breed the most important to me first and move down from there.
Space is my main issue. I like to buy the bigger barns, and it is getting harder with prices increasing with the more stalls you have. I have also started to buy outside horses, which I have only done sparingly in the past - so that could have something to do with my diminishing bank account.
If you like doing the GMT's then I think having fewer breeding and more showing makes sense. What ever part of the game makes it exciting for you - focus on that part.

Thanks.
Yeah, I totally get why Ammit did it. It's just been a struggle for me to adjust to the new schedule.
I just need more time to figure things out and settle down.
In a way, this did me a favor. When I went through 2 generations of mares in pastures, I found a bunch of mares that were underperforming, had only 1 foal, or had none and those mares were aged 8yo and older. Those mares went, since I have replacements waiting in the wing.
I may still tighten things up later on, but right now, I am feeling satisfied with what I have done.

I feel the same too. This last breeding season I was lucky that I had a few weeks off from work so I could get online more often and bred all my horses, but I know that after August when I start my study I won't have much time left so I probably won't breed at all.
I see the upsides of the shortened season, but I also see the downsides.
I'm glad I bought a lot of pastures tho, it makes breeding much faster and easier. Otherwise I could only breed a 100 a season, now I can do a whole lot more!
I think the best way to handle this is to breed the horses you like/value the most first, and then do the rest. And do a lot of culling too :pHJ1 160524

I'm having trouble as well. To top it off when I left foals in pasture to sell back to the game they went back into my pastures and overfilled my primary barn. So now I am going back through all of my foals from last year to auction off, and not having as much time to breed this year.
I also understand why it was done, but it still makes me sad because I do not have enough time and it's frustrating.

I too am having trouble. My daily bonus adds up quickly, but no time to use it. I suppose it makes it easier for new players, but I’ve spent a lot of time in the past working on making my special horses the way I want, and now they just age faster.

I have almost 1100 mares that I breed each season. I am able to get it done in about 2 days. I use the pastures to do all of my breeding, and I don't bother naming my show horses. I just geld/spay using SMA, then my own criteria, and I throw those in my show barns. I have everything super organized by having their generation in their name, as well as any special genes they have... I use NX for Nexus, AX for Axiom, KP, sa for satin, I designate each Ice gene by I1, I2, etc. Then I use ctrl+f to find them easily when I want to put them in the pasture to breed. I think it does make things go quicker for me!

I don't breed by hand. I do all my breeding by pastures. Each generation has its own pasture(s). I breed a generation at a time, go through the foals, then breed another generation, go through foals, etc.
