I'd keep him and breed him! You'll get fewer intact foals than you might if you used a lower quality stallion but their average quality will be higher.

Same. I’d rather breed to a higher papered stud (compared to the majority of my mares) than keep and breed a lower papered stud. Eventually your mares quality will catch up and the studs foals will set the next generation up to being better quality.

I have a few generations that my mares are transitioning to the next paper level and breeding to the higher level stud (I only keep 2 paper levels per generation)
