2G is second generation. You breed 2 foundation horses (from the create a horse page, of bought from other players the family tab will only say foundation horse not have other horses listed)

3G is when you breed the 2G horses together

4g is breeding the 3G horses together.

To tell what generation your horse is at is to go to the family tab and you look at the pedigree (if the visible pedigree is full you can click on the view full pedigree link) find the last vertical line that is completely filled in without the place holder “foundation horse” and count the vertical lines from there to the left (make sure you include the horse if your just counting from the family tab. It’s included in the full pedigree page)
