Wanted Satin
  • I would like to have some satin eggs or straws for next season breeding to improve my herd. thanks
  • To be completely honest, satin is not going to be an easy gene for you to get a hold of right now. As one of the people who do have satin in my barn (but was not apart of the original foundation buy in), I can tell you that to be accepted into the satin group is a privilege and one that takes time to get into. Unless you wait for the limited gene sales that Ammit runs in December, getting a foundation satin is impossible, and it will run about 60 gmt tokens per gene then, so your looked at spending around $100-120 real life cash for a homozygous one.
Other than going with your own foundations, the only way to get satin is to be accepted by those who already have satin and get someone to sell you a 2nd+ gen Satin. We tend to be VERY picky about who we sell to, so just offering a bunch of money to a satin owner wont work, we have been playing a long time and therefore tend to be pretty game cash rich. (I myself am sitting on around 35 million, and that is POOR for me, I've been clone happy lately lol). The way to get accepted by satin members:
    1) Show interest in satin (you have already done this)
    2) Create a personal relationship with those who have Satin (talking on the forum, being an active hajinc member)
    3) Show that you are a responsible breeder. Don't breed uneven generations, this makes it incredibly UNLIKELY that satin breeders will sell to you. We are interested in promoting the quality of satin, not just satin for satin sake. Which means breeding even generations, and striving for improvement with each generation. Doesn't matter how shiny something is, if it's quality is less, we cut it. We tend to be BRUTAL.
    4) Accepting that you will not get rich off of satin. We don't auction horses looking for high dollar amounts, if your looking to get rich quick, satin isn't for you. We have a whole host of rules that you'll likely have to agree to before anyone will even sell you a satin.

As of now, it looks like you just joined in December, so until you have some game time under your belt it is not likely that any of the satin members will sell to you as your an unknown. We don't know you yet, I'm sure your great, but we are picky :D. I myself have only brought ONE person into satin, and I knew her in real life. I would highly suggest reaching out to individual satin members and form a relationship, then when you have been around awhile, someone will likely bring you in. Satin is one of the hardest genes to get into (except perhaps Ice 2), it'll take some work but it is worth it.

To other satin members, feel free to jump in and correct me or add to it if you want. I havent been around much lately, so if things have changed please correct me!

  • The cash price to GMT a satin when it is available is actually closer to $450 real life money unless you get GMTs during a really good sale.
  • I totally agree with you Jayda, perfectly said. :) Satin had been out for several seasons and totally unavailable to the outside world lol, when I was HONORED to be invited in and given my first second generation satin foal. Since that time I have made it my mission in this game to only breed and improve my satin lines. Even pedigrees are one of the most important things in my stable, and I also NEVER keep a stallion who is worse than his sire (No matter how pretty he is). I have accidentally used the wrong straw/egg which resulted in an uneven foal. After kicking myself and probably talking ugly, that foal is altered and yummed.

Abbey, I do agree that you need to form relationships in the game for satin, as well as any of the new costly genes, and prove that you can be a responsible breeder. Once you do this I have no doubt that you will eventually be invited into the satin group and/or other special and hard to come by genes.

    :)

  • Thanks guys. :) how do you start forming relationships?
  • Let me preface this: I am not a satin breeder. I haven't been around nearly long enough, and I know that I don't have enough money to really pursue it the right way. But in terms of making connections, I do have some advice, as that is a fun part of this game to me.

Being active on the forum is a good start. You might also want to join the Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/huntandjump/

If people are looking for something and you have it and are willing to part with it (especially in the straws/eggs or GMT'able horse department), that generally makes you someone they're likely to have a good impression of. When Secret Santa rolls around in December, that's a fairly good way to get involved with even more people either as a gifter or an elf or someone selling to gifters (but I wouldn't wait til then, as already having friends makes buying gifts easier).

  • Basically everything everyone has said is true. For me when I look at the possibility of letting someone in to satin I look at a few things. Hilo breeding satin doesnt take any more money than anything else, as long as your prepared for the heartache of gelding or spaying those almost perfect foals that you could fix if you just had more money lol.
    1) How long have they been around? If im going to gift someone with satin, I dont want to see a month later they are quitting and doing a herd blowout and not caring where the horses go. If someone has been playing awhile there is less of a chance of that. Plus the longer you play the better idea you have of somones character and how they manage their herd.
    2) How friendly/ helpful are they with others?
    3) How dedicated to quality are they? Do they breed even generations? Are they breeding horses that papered lower than their sire/ dam?
    4) Are they willing to agree to the satin club rules?
    5) Does it seem like they want satin as a get rich quick scheme? Satin isnt about the money, case in point, the last Satin I " sold" was for I believe 1hb. I could afford it and wanted to help out a member who is fairly new to satin. The last embreyo I sold was at the cost it took me to make it.

  • Another hint: make sure you're playing by the rules.

You can find the game rules under the tab labeled rules, but here's one snippet worth reading over:

There is a limit of 3 free accounts per household.
All accounts owned by a single member must have the same email address.
Creating more then 3 accounts even if some or most are deactivated is still a lockable office.
If it is found that accounts you own contain different email addresses all your accounts can be fined or frozen.

  • I thought the number of free accounts had dropped to only one. Happy to be corrected if I'm mistaken.
