Gelding Papers
  • Please could someone explain what the different scores mean. I papered 2 geldings one was a C and the other is Showable Only.

    Thanks.
  • All gelding papers mean is that IF they had been left intact, that is what their papering would be as far as breeding ability. It's really just there so when Charlie gelds something, we can satisfy our curiosity as to just how bad of a breeder they would have been lol.
Licenses for everything. I have a pixel pony hoarding problem.
  • I have a bunch of star and a papered gelding... but they still got choped.. ?!?! ..is the gelding paper suppose to mean something different then the stalion paper?
  • As I understand it, gelding advice from Charlie tells you if your horse will be a significantly worse breeder than his sire. If the sire has papered star and he has a gelding that papers A, the gelding will likely be snipped by Charlie. If a star out of a star is snipped, it probably is for the best as that's the only way besides comparison testing to gauge the breeding ability of later generation (especially LB-lined) horses. There is some variability in paper levels, and there are many different levels of star papers, as most people expect all horses to paper star by third or fourth generation but still manage to keep improving their lines to get better star-papered boys.

  • Showable Only means that that horse was a complete dud for breeding, absolutely no good at all. A gelding that papers C means that he'd be about average for an ordinary create, but he would have been considerably worse for breeding than his sire.

  • I use the gelding papering sometimes for seeing how a stud is producing across the board on colts, but mostly it is my curiosity. It's free so it costs nothing to indulge that curiosity.
