What does chinchilla.... DO?
-
So I saw that Chinchilla is for sale today, and I've seen horses I like with it so I went and got it, and it doesn't look... at all different. Maybe it needs both allelles to express?
But more importantly, I think I just got a thing without actually understanding what chinchilla *does*? Am I correct in assuming it makes dapples lighter and more prominent? Does it only work on black-based horses instead of red-based? Or if there are already existing dapples does it go 'oh no, we're already covered' and not express?
Or, as is very likely, am I missing something?ID #238663, she/her pronouns -
Chinchilla removes all red pigment. So, for instance, a bright red Cherry Drop would turn white, and black horses would look the same. You see the bright silver dapples on horses with black base and at least one silver gene - so silver black horses would look most similar to the RGS image.
And yes, it must be hom to express! -
Yes, Chinchilla is a gene that, like flaxen, only expresses itself when homozygous recessive. It depresses red pigment in the hair cells, giving the horse the silvery color seen in real life chinchillas. It is not a real gene in horses.
Here is my homozygous chinchilla stallion.

What color horse did you put it on?

@PersianPenName I saw you put one chn on a Rhythm of Four - here's a hom chinchilla RoF for an example.

OH. Well. Crap. I really should've asked before I got it on that guy, I thought it only affected dapples!
Well, looks like I'm starting me a silver black line, doesn't it?ID #238663, she/her pronouns -
Hah, I can't blame you! I didn't realize what it did until I saw one of the super white horses either :) Silver black and silver blue roan are my favorites for chinchilla. Good luck!

Love the chinchilla Gene! :D

May I suggest that you do a search in the game of horses with the genes you are interested in? This way you can see how they express with different base colors or patterns. Then you can plan what you want to strive for. Chincilla is one of my favorites new genes.

Yeah that definitely woulda been smart, this is entirely on me! I think my new silver black line will be where I aim for making just tons of good show horses. The other line is gonna take a lot longer to build, so this one can just focus on Quality.ID #238663, she/her pronouns

I breed silver black Chinchillas. As long as you keep the lines in house (don’t share with other players without contacting me first), run all foals through testing, and breed even generations, I’d be happy to help you get your program started :)

Y'know, if you happen to have a non-chinchilla Rhythm of Four, would you be interested in trading?ID #238663, she/her pronouns

@PersianPenName I have one I might trade, is yours a mare or stallion?
@Sharayah Stables do you have any foundation chinchillas you would sell? I just got my gene license for chn and I used a White Wedding I made homozygous nd1, and he needs some girls. I would be willing to use all testing, even lines, and keep all intact in house, would you be okay with selling show horses? -
@AppleRunStables mine's a stallionID #238663, she/her pronouns

I don’t have any foundation Chinchillas I would sell, but I do have straws and eggs I can part with if you’re okay with the rules. :) Sorry to be so strict, I just aim for the highest quality, especially when I spend RL$ on them. Shoot me a message.
