I was just looking at this studs intact colts, does this guy look like he has DP? His dam could possibly have, she has no Sooty. He’s darker than Sire that has two copies of Sooty, with this colt only having 1 copy.

Doesn’t look it to me. :) I focus mostly on red-based DP, though.Post edited by SharayahStables at 2018-12-09 13:48:48

Wait, he's a bay? I was thinking 'buckskin, one sooty, yeah it's possible', but what I think you're seeing is just some lightening from nd1 on a single-sooty bay.ID #238663, she/her pronouns

To clarify, I think he's darker than his sire because his sire had silver to lighten him up, as well.ID #238663, she/her pronouns

Oh, sire also has two nd1s as wellID #238663, she/her pronouns

@PersianPenName I’m a little confused by your comment, do you mean his Sire looks lighter because he has 2 copies of nd1? Oh okay lol just saw your other comments. Silver could be the culprit in his Sire, thanks for helping me clear this up!Post edited by MW Stables at 2018-12-09 14:00:50

Yes, sorry, I meant that the sire's having two copies of nd1 and silver would likely make him lighter, I'm not sure how *much* each lightening and darkening gene works, but sire having two mild-lightening and one stronger lightening vs. those two darkening ones still seems like it would end up lighter than the base color.ID #238663, she/her pronouns
