-
Hey everyone I was just wondering how everyone went about pricing their straws? I have these special guys and I know I can't keep them in house for long. All input is appreciated

@SharayahStables helped me price my Watercolor Ice straws, can you help her too? I am also selling straws from my stud for 50k guaranteed intact for the holidays, I would be happy to just trade for some straws/eggs from your Watercolors though :)Post edited by MW Stables at 2018-12-26 15:29:49

1) it's a personal choice on whether you actually want to keep your horses in house or not, and for how long. People can admire your horses, without you feeling obligated to share your line with them. We're all (supposed to be) adults here, and can accept "no" as an answer. These are your babies, you are allowed to say no, if you want to.
2) in the past, when this question gets asked, a forum auction is usually suggested. You won't be able to gauge one horse's value perfectly off of another horse because unless they are clones, no two horses are exactly identical on this game. I would suggest auctioning off one or two straws to get an idea of what people would find reasonable to pay for any particular horse's straws. Whether you offer a guarantee or not may depend on if the bidding gets to a point where you feel it is a fair return on your investment in creating said horse, and that offering back up straws won't eat up too much of that value.
Either way, share or don't share, but price your horses at a value you can live with to maintain the goals you have in mind for any particular line.Post edited by Kat8805 at 2018-12-26 15:54:44Go boldly, where no App has gone before!Thanked by 1Kintara -
@Kat8805 thank you so much! I've been asked by a few people for straws I didn't want to seem rude and just say flat out no although I would like to build my herd first then sell straws

@MW Stables I will keep you in mind! I usually don't breed for riding horses but I wouldn't mind sending a few eggs after I'm ready to :)

You're welcome! I know it's hard to say no, I love sharing. But at the end of the day, it's my hundreds, or thousands now lol, of dollars. Real, hard earned dollars, that I've spent on my horses. The only person entitled to them is me. Anyone who can't respect that, isn't someone who is going to respect my line, and isn't someone I would be sharing with.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!Thanked by 1SharayahStables

Thank you for the awesome Advice I've got some KP ladies brewing for the top but but only have 1 Axiom green mare and 1 nexus mare lol

I generally don't sell straws from my stallions unless it's for special reasons. Like for Secret Santa. I don't mind sharing my stallions with people that I can trust to take care of their lines like I would with my own lines. Just my two cents.

@ForestShadow That was my same thinking just didn't want to feel snooty lol I heart of the hawk I don't mind sharing straws with but the other I'll keep in house for now.

I agree that an auction can be best to determine prices. I rarely stand my studs publicly. I only offer straws because I can ultimately decide who I trust to maintain the quality of my lines, or not. I’ve had people not follow my rules in the past (not keeping descendants in-house, breeding unevenly, etc) and for a while I was VERY hesitant to share any horse I spent real money on. That said, sharing is a lot of fun and selling straws and eggs can provide you with some easy hb’s.
At the end of the day, offering your boys to the public is always a risk. You can ask people to follow rules, but you can’t force them. Some people only care about color (which is fine, there’s no right way to play!), but if you’re aiming for quality, sometimes it can be easier to sell/swap with players who have similar goals/standards for your own sanity LOL.
Just my two cents. :) Moral of the story = you can play how you want and share (or not share) your horses with the public as you please. Just gotta do what makes you happy!
