This may be dumb and redundant, I apologize in advance. I'm still kinda new and trying to understand the KP. I've looked up what I can but I still don't understand all of it. A KP horse is homozygous for KP genes, does it have to be the same gene or can it be different i.e. (kit w and kit 20 or kit sb1 and kit w). Thanks in advance.

So Kit Promoter (KP) is different from the kit genes. Kit genes just make different white patterns on the horse (roan, W20, etc), and are visible in the genetic test. KP is a hidden gene that creates cloudy patches, but a horse needs to have hom KP (2 copies of the gene) as well as any 2 kit genes to show up. If any one of those is missing, it won't show up on the horse. KP is not included in the genetic test, so you can only be sure your horse carries it if it's showing or if you know one of their parents is hom.
