Breeding rules
  • Hello, all you amazing players of hunt and Jump

I am considering to let other people breed to one of my best stallions for the very first time, to give newer members a chance to breed some really hight PT show horses.
He will be available through straws only, and only advertised on this forum.
Is it legal to have a few rules when a horse is advertised on the forum only?
  • From my understanding that would be against the rules.
Specializing high quality dark horses with lots of chrome.

  • No, it's allowed. It's only horses up for public breeding that can not have rules. The big but (*snicker*), is that there is no way to enforce those rules either way. People can do what they want with the horse as soon as it belongs to them.

  • Maribo is correct. You may ask people you sell the straws to, to use them in a certain way but beyond that request, there is nothing you can do to enforce them.

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • I often times just ask people to respect the straws and eggs I sell, some I ask to be kept in house and to “respect” the lines. For example, if I have an Satin stud and someone gets an intact offspring I don’t want thousands of grand ponies from that sire because I spend real life and game money on them. I can’t control what they do with them, but chances are if I were to notice that happening I wouldn’t sell anything to that player again. It’s just my preference. I do have several high PT studs who I breed specifically for show ponies, so that is different for me. There is often times nothing spectacular about this stud other than the high PT score. I bought them with no restrictions on them and don’t sell the babies, so sometimes I will cross a longer generation stud with a high PT score to a foundation mare just to get higher point show horses.
  • There was some dispute awhile ago about a stud who had some sort of nexus or something that I think was overbred or otherwise contraversial, which might be relevant to this conversation. I just can’t find the thread/s right now. Just an example of how some people can get carried away, I guess.

  • Thank you so much everyone, for replying!

The stallion in question is this guy, one of the best stallions in the game. My idea was to give some of the newer (upgraded) members straws for cost price, to create some nice show horses of their own. But since I have spent hundreds of real dollars on the line, I don't want the offsprings to be used in bootstrap breeding etc.
I will do some thinking, and see if I can come up with a good idea, I really want to give new members a helping hand

  • On a personal note, I almost never stand my boys public. I always put "rules" when I offer straws, but at the end of the day there's no way to enforce them. That said, if they were taken advantage of I would not do business with that player and if the situation wasn't remedied, I would probably block them from my stock. Fortunately I haven't had to do that in several RL years because this community is pretty great. :)

It's always a gamble, though. Once those straws leave your hands, you lose control of how they're ultimately used and aside from blocking (if that's even still possible), there's not much you can do. All that aside, it's great sharing stock and I am glad I get to with other players that have respected the integrity of my lines. And if you are selling any straws, I’d love to buy some myself! ;) Slowly rebuilding a show string lol

  • If you are selling some straws they would really help me. Since my daily show bonus is only 1,086 :-<
Im slowly trying to start a high PT show pony line
  • If it will bug you if players breed your horses in a way that you wouldn’t, your best bet would be to not stand the horse at all.

@breedingStable when your first starting out to build a show string you are better off to have a wide variety of PT horses.

The high PT horses take a long time to get competitive while the lower PT horses will pick up points here and there all the way up because they tend to stay in the same level for more than a week so can improve their placing.

The best way I’ve found to quickly increase your show bonus is to use the search for public sales and auction horses and sort by total points. Buy as many pointed horses as you can for as low as you can (I only bid 2600 at the auction, if someone bids higher that’s fine there’s always another one) I snip everything I get and show it. Once I’ve filled my barns up I enter the bottom point holders into the next auction and then continue to buy high pointed horses and sell the low ones.
