Anyone else been hit with the Colt Curse.
-
I feel like I have been hit with the Colt curse all my mares that get the coloring I need get spayed but all the Colts with the colors I need doesn't :(( and I want to GMT them but i don't know if I'll be able to afford it :-S ugh maybe I'll have better luck next season... Here's all the lovelies that have the wrong parts.

The last 2 seasons! So many pretty show boys I have now!
-
@Bambi207 I'd hate to snip them as they are perfect for the program I need them for. Keeping my hopes up I can afford to GMT
-
I'm getting a ton of colts, but most of them aren't the right colors, either. The mares on the other hand, out of ninety I've gotten two. :))
-
Same has happened here! Last season i got visited by the filly fairy and most all passed, now im not having such good luck :((

Last season I was pretty much overrun but I went through and snipped a whole bunch now that I've actually found a project I want to breed for I'm not having so much luck :-S maybe it's just that time of year lol
-
At least it sounds like there's good fluctuation. Maybe we'll all do really good next season.
-
I know right I'm hoping at least. I really need to purchase more pastures so I can distribute my mares more evenly
-
I've got the primary and six smaller ones. The small ones are for the separate lines. I've got Appies in the Primary. Axioms, Chichillas, Fantasy M, Heavy Draft, and two liver pastures, one for Mango and one for Rare. Now I've got a new liver stud to finish out my mares so the Fantasy M line will be going to a tiny pasture, don't have very many mares for it yet anyway.
-
I just got splash M and I can't wait until I get to add it into my lines. I have a little bit of everything going at the moment lol
-
I've been breeding my stud to wh1 and wh2 mares. The foals come out pretty decent looking.
-
Man, sounds like this year hasn't really been for you guys. I'm glad I'm not in the same boat, only had one liver stallion ended up with probably more than 20. :)) Buuut, I'm very glad for it haha!

*raises hand*
I went on a crazy breeding spree last night that gave me predominantly colts. And the one filly? Got spayed. *has a sad.* -
@Parodoxphoenix I understand the stuggle and @Wolvevenfrost lucky you lol
-
There have been seasons where I've ended up with a heavy colt ratio, the more that failed SBA the more happy I was. More showhorses and the less testing I had to do, and the less mares that I had to test and name since my pastures can only hold so much per season.
I've got a 100 horse pasture for foundations, 2 100 horse pastures for 2nd gen, 2 100 horse pastures for 3rd gen, 2 100 horse pastures for 4th gen, and 1 100 horse pasture for 5th gen. I don't have a pasture for 6th gen because I don't have enough intact mares yet to qualify the expense of buying a pasture. -
I’ve had bad luck the last three seasons getting mostly colts.
-
@ForestShadow wow I wish I had at least one 100 horse pasture lol good job! And @NDRancher95 I am feeling your pain
-
Out of 47 foals this season, I ended up with mostly geldings. I think 26 of them failed SBA. Which is fine for me, I put up a lot of them for sale and kept some high PT scored ones for my show string. Got my first two blue papered mares and a couple of my first red papered mares for my lines, and I hand-bred some just to see what I'd get.
Got two really nice stud colts, half brothers. I chose to do comparison testing on one of them and he's superior to his sire and all of his other half-brothers so now I'm really excited for what he'll produce when he's 3 years old!
I'm used to be obsessed with breeding for color but I'm just trying to get good breeding quality lines and figuring out who are my best breeding producer pairs and who are my best show horse producing pairs. I somehow ended up with a fairly even split for producing either one in my breeding pairs. -
@Vyntage thanks for the input I actually just went on a snipping spree and snipped any uneven Gen horses and those I felt didn't fit in my program I hope to do more snipping/selling soon as I think I am finally figuring out exactly what I would like to breed for
