DP question
-
I know DP shows on red based horses.
My question is - is there a way to tell if a foal is carrying DP if the foal is bay/brown and had a DP parent? Or will the foal have to be bred when he/she comes of age to find out the answer?
-
The only way to tell on a bay/brown foal without having to test breed is if one of the parents was for sure carrying two copies of the DP, than the foal would be guaranteed to have at least one copy of the gene.
-
So in other words, a guessing game lol
-
Actually on HJ2 DP does show on bays and I believe that system is now in place on HAJ. It's not well documented what they look like though.

Here are some examples (from HJ2, but you get the idea):

This boy is At buckskin with DP. If you look through his foals you'll see he has obvious DP foals from non DP mares. Here's an example:

I was looking for a normal At buckskin to compare him to that has definitely been rerolled recently and haven't found one just yet. I'll keep looking.
I believe this is what 1 copy of DP looks like on a SstySsty (normal) bay:

SstySsty DP on A+ is confusing me a lot right now, and I'm too scared to reroll my confirmed DP A+ boy.Post edited by Kaquel at 2015-05-02 17:44:05 -
I was wondering about the color of this foal. So it is DP making him so dark?

Hmm it could be since his sire is DP, but I have lots of browns that look like this which I don't really think are DP:

I think it's harder to tell with the Ata SstyS or SstySsty ones since they have so little red to compare. -
Man, that 1st horse is so pretty. I love how dark he is.
The reason why I asked is because of this colt
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3301620
He has both silver and champagne, so it's hard to say.Post edited by Forestshadow at 2015-05-02 22:55:01 -
Yeah that's a hard one. I have a lot of trouble telling on champagnes and adding silver to the mix complicates things further. I would breed him to SstySsty chestnut mares with no DP to see if he sires a liver.
