Banner Sizing Advice?
-
So I've finally gotten around to making myself a stable banner (2 months into playing lol). This is what I have for now:
It's still a work in progress, but I wanted to ask how people normally go about compressing their banners? I've never had to work with such a small file size (15kb) before so I'm having difficulty compressing without loosing image quality.
Here it is downsized, but the jpeg artifacts make it kind of grainy.
Is there any way around this? It's just a pet peeve of mine, not really that big of a deal if there's no other way, but I thought I'd ask :P

I ran into the exact same issue haha, I tried over and over to resize my banner (and my tattoo file) in Photoshop and Paint and COULD NOT get them small enough. I finally found resizeimage.net via one of the forums or FAQs and that did the trick for me. The image quality was no worse than with PS or Paint but I was able to actually make the file small enough.
So, you might try that website if you want to try downsizing and aren't having luck elsewhere. Other than that you can clearly see that I didn't master making a banner that wasn't grainy... lol...
Will be following this thread to see what others say, I would love to make myself a nicer banner someday :)Thanked by 1Heartwood -
@FlyingTurkeyFarm Oh, that is helpful! I've been poking around in photoshop too. Kinda surprised how hard it was to find :)) but I found the jpeg resizing option under 'Save For Web.'
I'll definitely check out that website and see if there's any improvement. Thank you for the advice :DPost edited by Heartwood at 2019-03-29 20:18:34ID: 247225

You're welcome! I dont remember how I found it LOL but it was somewhere on here in player help or something. But I found it really easy to resize my image that way and the quality was comparable to the other programs. But with those programs there came a point where it literally would NOT make the file size any smaller in PS, lolThanked by 1Heartwood

This was another website I used! I think this one may have actually worked better, if I remember right. https://compressimage.toolur.com/Thanked by 1Heartwood

Ooh I think that was an improvement:
Still not quite perfect, but way better than what I had at first!
I feel like this is such a subtle thing but it looks much better to me, much appreciated =D>

I play on my phone, and can see no difference in the images on my small screen if it makes you feel any better.

For those of you working in Photoshop, you may still find a legacy feature that I always use. Click on File and then look for Export, not save. There may be an option to choose Save For Web. This will allow you to select from three levels of JPEG quality to find one that will get you under 15k. I usually can select Medium, but occasionally have to go down to Low to make a busy image fit.
