My western pleasure gelding is broken

    I have a POA x AQHA gelding who's been doing western pleasure/halter for 7 years, and I've always played with the idea of doing hunter under saddle with him. Turns out he'd actually be more suitable in hunter over fences! I've been free jumping him, and he is not afraid of big jumps! I had to stop him at a meter 30! He's only 15 hands, so everyone at the barn is harassing me with requests to show him in jumpers and XC :))
    My trainer: "Sophie, you're gonna have to kiss his pleasure horse days goodbye"

    They can totally do both! My barn owner’s daughter shows her quarter horse mare both Western and English, sometimes in the same weekend. Sounds like you have a great relationship with a smart and willing boy and a great showing future ahead of you, whatever you want it to be. Best of luck!

    Thank you! I'm not too crazy about his western pleasure gaits, but he's quickly learned to trot and canter, rather than jog and lope. I bought him as a project horse with the intent of making him a HUS horse, but I'm super happy he can jump! Eventing is my main discipline.

    I barrel race on my (former) WP horse. :p
    She can still do the slow thing, but she loves to chase those cans.

    That's so great! My gelding is fading out from western as a whole. He bucks when you put a western saddle in him :-S
    But I don't do western anymore, so I'm not complaining! :))

    I purchased my purebred Arabian as a National caliber western pleasure horse. Unfortunately I turned out to be a worthless western rider :) FORTUNATELY, we BOTH ended up loving dressage, and we went on to show through Fourth Level and I earned my Bronze Medal with him :x
