Show off your sables!

Ever since seeing some gorgeous Sable Champagnes on HJ2 I've been meaning to start a side project here on my main account to try to breed some! Today I managed my first home-grown sable :D
I'm curious whether or not anyone else breeds them or if there is much interest in them over here. So, if you've got some sables you're proud of, I would love to see what creative things can be done with them!
Here's my fancy little dude:

What genetic combination creates sable? I haven’t seen many on here yet. But then again I’ve never looked for them either.
-
From my limited understanding (I only started paying attention to them like a week ago, so this is very incomplete) they are champagnes with at least one E and an At.ID: 247225

I have quite a lot of amber and champagne sables if you want to see them all.

@Nikkel, wow I checked him out, he is gorgeous, and so many pretty babies! Your examples are awesome, now you've got me thinking about a sable line with some flashy white patterns :P The cream and nd1 on the first two really lighten them up a lot & pearl is awesome, I've never seen one like that before.
Haha you know I do ;) @Wolvevenfrost, bring em on!
Ooh @Bambi Maverick is awesome, his color is so rich even with that prl, do you think he got the DP from his sire? I'm a total novice with champagnes :x

@Peachtree thanks :) would you like some straws from him to play around with?
-
My favorite champagnes I've bred aren't sable. May I share anyway?
-
@Nikkel, Yes I would be very interested in a few if you don't mind :D
@bluchrystals Oh for sure, I love your champagnes, please feel free to share them anyway!ID: 247225

I'm about as bad with my champagnes as I am my other lines. Hard to pick only a couple favorites. Sorry if I hijacked the board.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2019-04-08 15:59:38 -
Why then would the first foal’s color name be “Sable Champagne”? Wouldn’t that be redundant? Either way, they’re awfully cute!Post edited by LenasHollywood at 2019-04-08 16:16:57

Champagne covers all other colors. The underlying genes are what causes them to be golds(ee aa), sables(Ee Aa), ambers(ee AA), or classics(EE aa).
-
@Jessj they are awesome, I'm especially loving the reverse/dark dapples!
@Nikkel :x Thank you so much! I can't wait to see what I get with them, much appreciated!
@bluchrystals No worries, they are all gorgeous! The wide range of base colors is really interesting to see, and there's something about those lacy white blankets on the low contrast golds that's really lovely :D
@BreedingStable I'm in love with how the KP almost kind of lines up with the tobiano on that first foal. They are all super pretty, those rich browns are something else.

Sable champagnes are the equivalent to brown horses, so sables are always E? Ata. Gold champagnes are the equivalent to chestnuts (ee), Amber champagnes to bays (E? A?), and Classic Champagnes to Blacks (E? aa). Ofcourse you also have cream champagnes, so gold cream champagnes are the equivalent of palominos (ee ?? Cr), amber cream of buckskins (E? A? Cr), Classic Cream of smokey blacks (E? aa Cr).
As I love browns, I do have quite some sables in my barns.
I think this boy is my absolute favourite, as he is also homo satin and homo GP, and produces the best offspring for me! <3<br />
MS2 Another Convo hGPhSAT
But I have some other lovelies too:
More regular but with S+:
MS4 ExceptionalIronS
this one has silver (and DP probably), changing her color dramitacally
MS2 A Different Beat
With Dun and homo satin:
MS3 AnotherAurora hSAT
MS2 AnotherTimeSAT
MS2 StormOfStars htKPBLUE
This one is super dark, being homo DP:
MS3 HotRunner hDP SHOWWW
MS2 Dreamwarner hKP
It's hard to see she is champagne, but if you look at her leg, you can see she is no normal bay/brown (in that case the leg should have been black):
MS4 Manibridge Wm hKPGOLD
MS3AnotherDreamSFKPhGPSAT
And with the champagne leopard spots:
MS3 CandiedDown hetSF
Homo GP:
MS3 AnotherFourryYou
MS4 AnothrLuckmoSATpGPw10
And, believe it or not, these are sable champagne horsess too:
MS3 AnotherTahoe i9 SHOWW
The ice 9 really changes/darkens the coat color!
MS3 SICKEST PLAID
MS3 MyKnightsCode LOOVEEE
And I end with this guy, my 2nd favourite sable champagne:
MS2 MyMisterIsComing i9
He is from Mister Diamond, and amazing stud I had and is the foundation of all my Ice 9 horses and thus my ice 9 line. He gave me amazing foals, including this superior son that looks so cool!

Dang i didn't know there was a sable gene! With all the pretties pictured i may now have another project to start up! Now to find some sable pretties to help me start up!
-
@Peachtree thank you! I love the way he looks, he is from @Nikkel666 foundation sable KP stud!Thanked by 1Heartwood

@Kennahill1989 just a small thing to note:
there is no sable gene, it is just a specific combination of genes that results in a color that is called sable; brown horses (E- Ata or AtAt) with the champagne gene (Ch).
The same with the color buckskin: there is no buckskin gene, just the combination of genes that results in a color we call bucksin: a bay/brown horse (E- Ata, AtAt, AtA, Aa, AA) with a cream gene (Cr).
But ofcourse you can look for the combination of genes that results into sables: Champagne, E and At!
Goodluck on your hunt: I've sent you some straws from this sable guy:
MS3 LoveStormWarner hKP
3rd gen homo KP, EE (so you'll always have a black based horse), hetero At and hetero Ch.
I've also put these two gals up for you in the frustrated horses chat, they are true breeding brown appaloosa's, which means they will always pass on their E, At and LP gene. So if you cross those gals with a (homozygous) champagne horse that has aa you'll get sables everytime!

@Forestshadow, wow that's quite a collection of pretty sables you have there, love all of the creams and apps.
Ooh awesome rhythm of four @Wolvevenfrost, was she a lucky create or did you GMT her that way? Thanks for sharing :) the S+ looks really good on sables too!
@MasterStables you are a champ with the game genetics! Lovely examples you have, I love the look of the ice9 on them, seeing how all of the different lightening and darkening genes play out on sables has been really helpful :D
I'm gathering a really long list of things I'd like to do with a sable line now, lol :)) these guys are all gorgeous, thank you everyone for sharing and keep em coming!ID: 247225

@Natalya, yessss love those reverse dapples :x your apps are gorgeous as well! I don't see a whole lot of grays around, so it's definitely cool to see a sable one that hasn't gone white yet.
:o Silver sable pearl, ooooh. That's one killer colt, I gave one of my studs a copy of pearl recently to spread around, and it looks great on everything, but I've never seen it on a champagne before @blu
@Alekai more pearls, wow, what an extensive combination of genes, they are awesome.
