I don't know what your daily bonus is, but you could also consider how long it would take you to earn some of those IVs back to help determine how much you're comfortable spending.

@Iceobb8 if it's snipped it stays snipped even after you max it, but you can still unspay/geld afterwards. Whether a horse is intact or not doesn't affect the max ability feature.
