Trying to get spots instead of leopard gmting a horse
  • I have gone thru a bunch of gmt's trying to get spots instead of leopard. I copied the genes of one of my mares but they are totally different. I have also re-rolled I don't know how many times. I added lp, lp, patn1, patn1. removed everything. Added lp and one patn1. Cannot seem to get out of 3/4 leopard look.

    What am I doing wrong?
  • Have also gmt'd white factor down from large, to medium, to minimal to none.

  • Link to horse?
  • I'm not sure what you mean, you want a full leopard, not a 3/4 one?

  • I think she's wanting a 3/4 appy, not a leopard and can't figure out the combination of Llp and Patn to bring it about.

I don't want the leopard look, spots too small, would at this point even settle for a blanket. Like I stated above, I added lplp patnpatn, removed, added lp patn, lowered white factor from large, to med, to min, to none. Still basically the same spots look
  • Take off her PATN :)

  • I recall Ammit saying that there are many 'behind the scene' genes that affect the LP coats. Such as genes that shrink or enlarge the spots. I can't remember where she would have posted that to share though.

  • What TawnyEclipse said. I imagine the only way you can guarantee the other spots (I imagine you mean the big ones, not the tiny dots) is to have started with a horse that had them.

http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=4743413 is the look you're going for, right? Same combination of obvious appy genes... so unfortunately you may not be able to achieve that with the filly in question.
  • Yes Tawny something like or similar to that one. Maribo I did take the patn off and she turned back solid color.

I seem to remember reading something about behind the scenes gene and lp. Was really hoping that I could turn this girl into what my SS really want.

    Thanks for the help

  • Yeh I think the big spots are one of the behind the scenes things we can't control, they are in certain lines and you can breed for them
