Generations in Straws
-
If I use a 1st gen mare with a 3rd gen straw, does the foal come as 1 gen, 3rd gen, or uneven gen?
-
It’s the exact same as if you were to breed those 2 horses regularly. The foal will be uneven generation 2nd & 4th Gen in the pedigree.
Although as always if you have questions about particular horses you should include links to the horses.
Rather than hypothetical questions it makes sure everyone is on the same starting page.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
I don't have any example horses. don't know I could do anything buy buy them first, but that's a bit costly just to answer a question, isn't it.
Thank you so much for your easy-to-understand advice and information. -
Getting intact horses using AI is a bit harder than pasture breeding so if you are going to be using straws, eggs or embryos it may be harder to get intact horses from uneven breeding if you use all available testingBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes

Ah, I didn't know that. What do you do when the pedigree looks miles long like in the case of some of the golds and stars? How do you calculate how many generations they are, or does it matter once you reach that level?
-
All of my lined breeding stock have their generation number in their name so I don’t have to worry about it :)I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

I keep mine in their name, others use tattoos. LC is my foundations, LC2 2nd gen, LC3 is 3rd etc.
By breeding similar quality horses, you are more likely to get intact foals. It does get more difficult as generations progress, but that is the fun part of the game for me. I produced my first homebred even 7th generation foal recently.Post edited by Humboldt at 2020-12-13 13:33:24 -
NightPhoenix, I'm trying to do the same, since I discovered it simplified things.

I use a similar system as Humboldt except I use 2 prefixes JL for mares and JS for studs and use the alphabet to denote generations starting at 2nd Gen. this way I have a long time before I need to come up with a new naming system and keeps my horses easy to sort in the search feature without mixing them in together and when adding horses to pastures they are all organized by generation.
So JLa would be a second Gen mare and JSd would be a 5th Gen stallion.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
Yep, I have a collection of prefixes and suffixes that tell me their generation, their genetic line, and any important goodies.
On Hj2, I did accidentally label a mare as the wrong generation and then had to purge like half my 7gs (okay, that's only like seven horses at this point, but it hurt) because it was bothering me so much.
