The showing system WILL be getting some changes. Discussion post.
-
Ok, that's so relieving. I was thinking the bonus was included but now all is clear and good. I do like seeing so many more '+' by the horses even if they aren't making money. And I turned auto show on all the barns now. Thanks for the clarification and all the new changes Ammit.
-
I'm a huge dorky newb at showing, what makes a good show horse these days? I'm in the middle of culling and I'm getting rid of low PTs and inconsistence, is there anything else to watch out for?
-
Redbud, that is just about what I do every time I enter that barn lol :)

How is the new system working for people? I have not benefited per se, going from a profit of 200K to a bonus of 100K and a profit of -685 to +1000. Anyone seeing a similar trend, or are most people making more money as predicted?
-
I'm making 100k more than I was at my max.Imation Stud ID# 2609

I would say that I'm doing better. Remember that towards the end, the profit computation had a bug in it and it wasn't subtracting the class fees, at least, so the apparent profit was way too high. At that point, my profits appeared to be over 200K steadily and occasionally breached the 300K mark. Now, my profits are, of course much diminished, reflecting the lowered payouts. However, my point level is high enough that my bonus is steadily above 200K.
Previously, I was always excited when my profits got above 100K and really excited on the rare weeks when they approached 200K. However, there were usually weeks when the luck ran against me, and the profits dropped down below 50K. So yes, I think this new system is going to work for me. -
I'm about 200 k below what I was earning before the change. It's slowly going up though
-
My previous profit was usually between 200 and 300 k. My current bonus is 703,149 hbs, and it is going up all the time.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

Wow, how many horses do you all have?
-
A search for all my horses gives 1798 as the total number. That includes pasture horses and yearlings. I've been playing since mid-January 2011.
I have, right now, 397,410 points. My most valuable horse is a 16 year old spayed mare who currently has 3162 points. As she is currently placing in the upper echelon of level 7W, she will continue to gain somewhere between 22 and 32 points most weeks unless she levels up after a long, long spell in 7W, and has to merely rest on her laurels. :) She placed 10th in points for lined horses in the Champagne Breeders Club last year. All of this in spite of the facts that her PT is only 10.4 and she is inconsistent.
Horses 2-22 on the lifetime profits search all have over 1000 points. -
I have 6400+ horses.
My net profit before was 200k-400k, I'd been steadily earning that for almost a year. Right now my weekly bonus is 577,016 hbs. I've been playing since 2006, my top horse (points-wise) is a 19yo spayed mare with 4156 points. She was born in July 2011!Imation Stud ID# 2609

I have 4384 horses, I'm getting over 500k for a weekly bonus now which is getting up near what I used to average before. Probably because I'm showing more horses now. I just looked, my best is about 3300 points, and he is a stallion too. Wonder if he would have more or less as a gelding? http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=1839314Post edited by Kintara at 2014-08-10 19:18:30

Please keep in mind that as people get more points I may need to knock it down from 60% of points to 50% of points. That is probably inevitable but I wanted to let people settle in to the new system and get caught back up to what they where earning first.Need to contact me? Read this first.

My best showing boy is a gelding who has 4481 points :)
-
It looks like I have 1581 horses currently. My bonus is 118,000 per week, and my best show horse is a 19 yr old gelding with 3230 points. I had done some massive culls in the last few years and sold off most of my yearlings because my stable was getting so large. I've been playing since 2010, but not very aggressively. I have 524,680 points total, and 197, 867 points currently. So I think my new strategy is to keep the old show horses I would have yummed, and keep most of my foals!
-
I just looked up my best points winner, a gelding i picked up in the auction for 2700hb's! There are bargains out there to be had! http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=1792820
I still wish i hadn't entered into the massive cull we had with such gusto, it going to take a long time, if ever for me to get even close to where i was with earnings. -
Yeah I culled half my horses in the big purge. It's going to take a long time to get back to where I was. I culled a bunch of dud 8W horses too a few months ago. Sure wish I had kept those! Oops
-
No one had any idea this change would happen at that time. Neither did I. Don't forget people got a lot of money for doing that cull. Probably more then those old horses would have earned you each week anyways.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Heh, I made a boat-load of hbs with the culling. Spending the hbs was wonderful, I felt like a rock star! :D
I'm very happy with the steady income of my horses now. I'm almost up to $60k, with my show profit currently about -$4k, and inching upwards. That's a huge amount better then before the culling, when my show profit easily fluctuated between -$15k and +$45k with the rare spike up over +$100k. I'm currently at 1,677 horses - that's way more then I thought I had lol.Bluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

Noooooo! Have no regrets over culling with the Great Purge of 2013!
Obviously the new strategy for making money is exactly the same as the old strategy for making money: you need more horses!Thanked by 1Raina -
In the announcement Ammit said that the scores for the classes would be shifting. Has this already happened? Or do I need to wait a bit and see if some of my older 'red zone' horses start doing better?
-
I think that when Ammit said that she was referring to the fact that all horses in auto-show barns are now being entered twice a week regardless of what their base scores are. This means that some classes will be filled with horses that have lower than top-of-the-level scores and so some of them will have chances to place well.
I have observed, both in H&J 1 and in H&J 2 that my profits remain negative under this regime (but not nearly so drastically as they would have before the reduction in entry fees and payouts), but my weekly showing bonus continues to rise because my number of points continues to rise. The only horse in a class that doesn't gain some points is the one that places last, so even horses that end up in the lower half of large classes can contribute positively to stable income.
In my H&J 2 stable, which is much smaller and younger than the one here, my showing bonus increased from 25hb more than the showing deficit to over 1000hb more than the deficit in one week and is continuing to rise. This is a very encouraging sign, and helpful to me because I hadn't been showing there at all for lack of time and energy.Thanked by 1Ammit -
I just noticed that I had some leveled off horses that were at the top of their class during the great purge and are at the bottom of a higher class now. Obviously I don't want horses that are finishing 15 out of 15 hanging around. I just didn't want to cull horses that might be useful in the future.
-
Stick them in a no show barn or in a pasture.Need to contact me? Read this first.

That's true. I was already planning a non-showing barn for mares that didn't show well but were still good producers. I can just make a sort of holding pen for the show horses.
-
You really should not end up with to many you don't want to show. Class results should be much more open and varied now you should not end up with horses that always finish last nearly so much.Need to contact me? Read this first.

At some point, would it be possible to get pastures for spays/geldings that shouldn't be shown anymore? I think it would be a great option to not take up stall space for those that do come in last more than they should, and we can put them there and leave stalls for other show horses and foals.
-
No pastures need to be for breeding only to keep the code manageable, but it is cheaper just to buy a barn. Pastures cost more then barns do.Need to contact me? Read this first.
